STREET BANNERS

Funding provided by Representative Joseph Preston, Jr. purchased banners for the Business District as well as marketing opportunities for the WCDC and Wilkinsburg Businesses. The banners were installed in September 2011.

WCDC aims to promote local businesses and increase access to the types of information we provide to the community throughout the WCDC website and other promotional materials. The WCDC also regularly makes press releases available to local media, promoting positive coverage of the Borough and marketing community events.

Through a recent partnership with POP City, Wilkinsburg Borough will have several features on the widely-read online magazine. The partnership includes a feature story (An “Insider Guide to Wilkinsburg”); a neighborhood page, or descriptive overview which will be rotated with other neighborhoods featured on the site’s home page; a directory listing of businesses, complete with photos; and a unique web page and address, and an email for each listing. SPROUT FUND MURAL

The WCDC hosted a dedication ceremony for a new mural in October 2010. Artist Brian Holderman has revisited the mural he first created for Wilkinsburg and the Sprout Fund in 2003. Holderman is a graphic artist who has been working in the city for more than 10 years. He also makes and exhibits paintings throughout the United States.

Revitalization and expansion of the mural was made possible by a grant from the Sprout Fund, whose Public Art program has developed more than 50 enduring works of art by local artists in neighborhoods in Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities of Allegheny County.
